The Role of the Board of Governors
Priestlands School has always aimed for a partnership with parents and the community, which undoubtedly brings great benefits to the children. One of the most significant ways you can help in promoting this aim is to volunteer to be a Governor. The Board of Governors' main task is to support the school, ensure that students receive high quality education and plan for future development improvement. You will be part of a team which holds up to 11 Board meetings per year which will require approximately 6 hours of your time per month.
We hope you will get a lot out of being a governor; the knowledge that you are helping the school and students, the satisfaction of giving something back to the community, a sense of purpose and achievement, new skills which may be useful elsewhere, broader horizons, new friends and workmates, together with training and support in order to help you fulfil your duties and responsibilities.
Community Governors will, ideally, live and work within the local area but will not be a parent of a current Priestlands student. We advertise when vacancies arise and interested candidates complete an application form. Applications will be considered and appointed by the Board of Governors.
If you are interested but would like an informal chat about the role before making an application, please contact Caroline Clitherow, Clerk to Governors via email at caroline.clitherow@priestlands.hants.sch.uk
Equally, Peter Main, Headteacher, would also be happy to discuss the role further with you so please feel free to email him at Headteacher@priestlands.hants.sch.uk
Parent Governors play a vital role in ensuring the Board of Governors is aware of the views of parents and the local community. We advertise when vacancies arise and interested parents complete and submit an application form. An election is held and all parents of current students at the school are eligible to vote.
If you would like to contact the Board of Governors for any reason, please contact Caroline Clitherow, Governance Professional, in writing at the school's address or by email
